MetroWest Moves’ New Year Kick-Off Event
On January 17th, 2013, MetroWest Moves held their New Year Kickoff Event at the Bose Corporate Office in Framingham. About 70 participants attended, including state and regional elected officials, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the MetroWest Health Foundation, and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. Also present were leaders from the municipal Boards of Health, Planning Boards, Economic Growth and Development, Departments of Public Works, and Parks and Recreation, and individuals representing a wide range of community organizations including schools, healthcare/hospitals, service groups, restaurants, advocacy groups, and business associations.
During the meeting, MetroWest Moves provided progress updates for each of its initiatives including: Healthy Dining, Healthy Vending, Complete Streets/Community Design, and Tobacco Control. Senator Jamie Eldridge and Representatives Tom Conroy, Danielle Gregoire, and Chris Walsh provided updates on how their health priorities/initiatives relate to the work of MetroWest Moves.
Several community partners presented on the work they are doing that supports the goals of MetroWest Moves, including:
- MetroWest Regional Collaborative – Route 9 MetroWest Smart Growth Plan
- Metropolitan Area Planning Council – Framingham Tech Park Area Study
- MetroWest YMCA – Healthy Vending
- United Way – Addressing Hunger, Building Spaces to Move, and Serving Healthy Meals
- The Latino Health Insurance Program, Inc. – Chronic Disease Prevention Programs
- Hudson Public Schools – New Wellness Curriculum
- Marlborough Wellness Program – Current and Past Programs
- MetroWest Food Service Directors – Collaboration and General Challenges/Benefits with New USDA Guidelines
- MetroWest Free Medical Program – Chronic Disease Initiative
