Run for the Rainforest 5K

Details: The Hudson High School “Peru Crew” is now registering participants for its third annual Run for the Rainforest 5K. The Oct. 17 event will help raise money for students to take a trip to the Peruvian Amazon in April 2016.

The first 200 people to sign up for the race will receive a Run for the Rainforest t-shirt. Strollers and dogs are welcome. On the day of the event, students will be collecting dog collars and leashes for “Amazon Cares,” a no-kill dog shelter in Iquitos, Peru.

Your participation will make it possible for us to also continue our participation in several charitable causes. These include: the Suitcase Project, bringing needed school, medical, sport and pet supplies to rural communities and to support Isla de Los Monos, a rescue center for primates.

Prior to traveling, members of the Peru Crew will be working with second graders at Farley Elementary School over the next several months to teach students about the rainforest and conduct a cultural exchange between Farley students and children of the Yagua community of Urco Murano, Peru.

Race participants can register online or on the day of the event. Registration is $20. The race will be held at the Hudson High School Riverside Parking Lot and events are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. For more information please e-mail June Murray at jmurray@hudson.k12.ma.us.

FINAL Hudson Master Plan Forum!

Details: We have held all of our specific-topic based forums, at least one for each element of interest. Our initial public outreach process is now complete, & all of the DRAFT chapters have been released. The DRAFT document is available in its entirety and available for public comment, with comments due back by July 31st.

Once public comments are incorporated, the finalized plan will be released at a public meeting of the Planning Board . This extensive community-wide input will help Hudson continue to be a great place to live, work and play.

Women’s Business Network Gates Pond Walk

Wayside’s Annual 5K Race

Details: In 1995, Wayside hosted their first 5k road race. The “Wayside/401 Run For Fun” benefited the Marlborough D.A.R.E. program, raising over $20,000.00 in its first ten years. In 2004, the race began benefiting the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Fund. National Trails Day

This year’s Trail-a-Thon promises to be a day of fun for all. Walk or run a 10K trail or enjoy a family-friendly 3K loop. Explore the trails of Framingham’s scenic northwest corner where SVT’s properties intertwine with Callahan State Park. Invite your friends and neighbors to join you. Upon completion, enjoy a BBQ prepared by Whole Foods Market, live music by The Pennies, and fun and games for kids. Yoga stretching sessions are available before and after the walk.

South Street Extension Public Design Hearing

Finnegan’s Fantastic Five Road Race

Proceeds benefit: Proceeds of the race will benefit the Elks Scholarship Fund, which provides educational stipends for college bound seniors at local area high schools here in Hudson and Marlborough. Since 2009, Highland City Strider road races have raise over $17,000 in scholarship money.

Details: A 2 kilometer (1.2 mile) walk and a Mighty Mite Marathon (26.2 yards or so!) for children ages 2 to 6 that will take place on South Street in front of Finnegan’s Pub at 10:45am. Both the 5K run and the 2K walk start and end at Finnegan’s Pub following along the beautiful Assabet River Rail Trail. When the race is over, you can participate in Hudson Fest, which features a wide variety of sidewalk sales and family entertainment from local vendors.

Details: Barbara Gold, RD, CPC, licensed Registered Dietitian and Certified Professional Chef, will be holding six group sessions, two times a month every other Tuesday starting November 12th, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Hudson Senior Center. This is a pilot program and will be limited to 12 people
every 12 weeks. There will be three program sessions over nine months. Before each program starts, Barbara will be doing a complete individual assessment which will take approximately 45 minutes with each participant. She will discuss your lifestyle with you and help you develop a healthy eating style that will guide you to achieve weight loss and long term weight management.
